چکیده

This paper proposes, describes and evaluates a novel theoretical framework for end-to-end video quality assessment of MPEG-based video services in hand-held and mobile wireless broadcast systems. The proposed framework consists two discrete models: A model for predicting the video quality of an encoded signal at a preencoding state by specifying the bit rate that satisfies a specific level of user satisfaction and a model that maps the packet loss ratio of the transmission channel to the quality degradation percentage of the broadcasting service. The accuracy of the proposed framework is experimentally validated, demonstrating its efficiency. Keywords— Video Quality, MPEG, Packet Loss, DVB.

A Study of MPEG Video Transmission in Lossy Wireless Networks

In multimedia communications, different characteristics of wireless channel error models lead to different effects on the delivered video quality level. In this paper, we analyze the effects of wireless channel errors on the quality of MPEG video stream. First, we use an analytical model to derive an application-level evaluation metric, the Decodable Frame Rate (Q). This is more sufficient for ...

A framework for end-to-end video quality prediction of MPEG video

This paper proposes, describes and evaluates a novel framework for video quality prediction of MPEG-based video services, considering the perceptual degradation that is introduced by the encoding process and the provision of the encoded signal over an error prone wireless or wire-line network. The concept of video quality prediction is considered in this work, according to which the encoding pa...

Amathematical theory of compressed video buffering: Traffic regulation for end-to-end video network QoS

The recent successes of over-the-top (OTT) video services have intensified the competition between the traditional broadcasting video and OTT video. Such competition has pushed the traditional video service providers to accelerate the transition of their video services from the broadcasting video to the carrier-grade IP video streaming. However, there are significant challenges in providing lar...

Video Quality Prediction Models Based on Video Content Dynamics for H.264 Video over UMTS Networks

The aim of this paper is to present video quality prediction models for objective non-intrusive, prediction of H.264 encoded video for all content types combining parameters both in the physical and application layer over Universal Mobile Telecommunication Systems (UMTS) networks. In order to characterize the Quality of Service (QoS) level, a learning model based on Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Infere...

Adaptive Video Quality Control Based on Connection Status over ATM Networks

The MPEG video coding is the most widely used video coding standard which usually generates variable bitrate (VBR) data streams. Although ATM can deliver VBR traffic, the burst traffic still has the possibility to be dropped due to network congestion. The cell loss can be minimized by using an enforced rate control method. However, the quality of the reproduced video may be sacrificed due to in...
